Mondays Are Stupid

I’m getting killed at work today, so working through my lunch instead of writing a proper post here.

Had a pretty decent day at the animal shelter yesterday, though it was really busy and I stayed longer than usual, despite already being rather burnt out. Hence I slept super hard last night, but it wasn’t enough. I’m a mess today.

Still, I got to hang with the skunks, watch some hedgehogs and various opossum eat (since they are nocturnal, I don’t often get to see them out and about), and finally got a good look at Banjo, the new-ish Virginia grey opossum who joined us a while ago, but who is always asleep when I am there. He came over to sniff me and check me out for a few moments before returning to his dish to eat. So cute!

Then I got up this morning to find that my pally had posted a sweet video clip of he and I with Hudson from Friday afternoon, and I scooped a screenshot from it, which is now my desktop wallpaper at work!

So that’s good.

Otherwise, though, Monday can kind of suck it.

Birthday and Belated Birthday Day

Okay guys, I don’t have a lot of time, but figured I could get away with a quick post about my tiring but ultimately awesome day thus far!

So focusing on the awesome parts, met up with my mom and bro for a belated birthday lunch at one of our favourite places, the recently-opened second location of The Smoke in Vaughan.  I haven’t been there too often yet, so am still working my way through different menu items each time, but damn…everything is SO GOOD!!! Today I had the W.B.B.T.L.C. (Wild Boar Bacon Tomato Lettuce Cheese…I think) with fries and tried the gravy for the first time and OH MY GOD!!!  It was all I could do not to drink the rest of it after I ran out of fries.

We even had the smoke apple crisp after, despite the fact that I’d eaten myself into physical pain by that point. guys…locations in Collingwood and now Vaughan.  You won’t regret it.

Then we stood outside in the light rain so they could present me with my belated birthday present.  My brother lifted the rear hatch of the van to reveal a sweet new Sharp HDTV!  What?!  Apparently my mom, brother, niece and nephews had gotten together to get me a TV I could use with the Blu-Ray player I’d gotten for free quite awhile ago when I had to use up my Airmiles and switch to Airmiles cash before they expired.  Instead of slowly growing obsolete in its box, it’s now hooked up to this beauty TV, and now I can watch Netflix on it instead of my iPad Mini and I can watch the Shomi HD content and everything looks sooooo pretty!

Also, and this is bigger, it’s Brody’s 9th birthday today.  I got him a marrow bone for dinner which he’s been working on for the past 2 hours.  That boy’s mouth is going to be so sore.  Bless.

His mama has been on my mind a lot lately, and I haven’t been sleeping very much and I feel like I have only been home to sleep.

I need a vacation from life.

But holy hell is he ever cute.  He is the puppy I love most in the whole world, beyond all reason or measure.  I tell him all the time.  I love all the puppies – and there are a lot – but none more than him.

That munchkin is the greatest, and a bright shining light in my every day.  Just like his mama was.  ❤️

Day Trip

Okay, sorry guys, but I am super distracted and tired from a long-yet-awesome day.  I don’t really feel like writing, but a post a day is the goal, and I am not willing to give up on that just yet!  It’s still only February, after all!

So, I shall talk a bit about my day.  It was not at all what I’d had planned earlier in the week – and I had a pretty huge week, actually – but I’m glad it happened the way it did.  I got up at OMG it’s early o’clock and was lucky to have a lovely friend pick me up and drive me down to Union Station so I could catch the first bus to Barrie.  There I was met by my brother, nephew and niece, and we made our way to Collingwood from there.  The goal – one of them – was to surprise our mom and then all go to lunch together.  After that, the other main goal of bringing my hope chest back to Toronto and get it out of mom/bro’s basement would also be fulfilled.

Mom was definitely surprised.  😀

My brother has been wanting to get me to The Smoke for a meal for…ages, it seems.  I’m rarely n Collingwood, so I guess it just hasn’t ever worked out that I could go.

Guys – totally worth the wait!

I can’t even…I ate until it hurt.  That’s how good it was.  So freaking full after!

Also, there’s a reserved sign specifically for my brother and family, and my brother came out with one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard!  I shan’t repeat it here, but I did add it as a note to my phone for future hilarity memories.

Back at Mom/bro’s, my mom was showing me a few things she’s come across recently.  Among them was an old, handmade journal.  Like, 1800’s, sewn together at the spine kind of old.  Super neat old school scrawl, with notes and verses and the like inside.  Addresses, including one to someone in Whitby, near Toronto, UPPER CANADA, North America!  From when Canada was divided between Upper and Lower!  Whaaaat?!

Probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever held in my hands.  It belonged to my great-great-great-great-grandfather.  Whoa.

We got my big wooden box loaded up and began our trek to Toronto.  We stopped for a loo break and so my mom and I could break all the rules at an automated sketching machine by cramming the both of us into a caricature built for one.

Probably the worst sketch ever.  I was still laughing so hard at it when I got to the loo that I had to pause and blow my nose a few times!

Now I’m home, ate the rest of my lunch for dinner, having a beer and watching TV whilst I write this.  Brody wants to go out now, though, so I think I should go spend some time with him.

Post a day – so far, so good.

Note: Feb 20, 2012 was the day I met Hudson the polar bear cub in person for the first time.
