So, last night was super fun, and exciting and I got home later than planned and was wired for a couple of hours after that. So I haven’t had much sleep. It’s a friend/co-worker’s last day, which is kind of sad. Good for her, though, if not for me! Haha
We recorded a radio play last night – the super racist and sexist Flash Gordon episode from 1935 – and had a total blast doing it! I admit I wasn’t sure how the ladies were going to take to it, but once everyone started to play together, the result was pure gold! I can’t wait for it to get posted! They all want to come back, as well, if they are available when we do one, so that’s always a good sign. I like when everyone just laughs and plays and takes none of it seriously. At all.
So much fun!
Before we started on that, we announced all the Reelie award winners, to finally put that to rest for now! We recorded just the audio on that, I think, which is fine, since there was nothing to see, anyway. When I got home, I posted pics of the announcement cards using the Mind Reels behind-the-scenes Instagram account I’d set up (it was originally our Guinness account), then went on Twitter and re-tweeted all of them so I could tag the winners in each one, as well. The response was positive and all came pouring in almost immediately, which was exciting, and another reason why I was awake far later than I should have been!
Worth it, but damn. Totally struggling today!
With all of that out of the way, my focus (what there is of it right now) has turned to Fan Expo and Patreon. My hope is to launch Patreon next Thursday, Sept 1st, which is also my birthday and the first day of Fan Expo! I don’t expect to get much more accomplished than launching the page and posting quick promos for it before I head out, but so be it. I’ll spend the rest of the week and long weekend promoting both Patreon and Fan Expo, and hopefully neither will be a complete fail! Also, Patreon will be an ongoing thing until I decide to pull the plug, so with any luck, we’ll pick up new Patrons as we go along. I hope. I still have to remind myself that, even if it fails miserably, it’ll still be a personal learning experience for me, and that’s just as important in the long run.
Well, almost as important. I actually really want to achieve some modicum of success with this, if I can!
Also, this morning, I pitched Tim my crazy idea, and he actually kind of likes it! It’s all still very vague and details need to be worked out if we’re going to go through with it, so he’s putting some thought into how it might all go, too. We’ll compare notes later…sometime…when we’re “less busy”. Haha
I’m glad he didn’t just shoot it down, though. I hope that means he also sees some positive potential in the whole thing. Sorry to be vague about it, but I really don’t want to say anything more concrete until I have a better idea what I actually want to try and do. Sometimes my mind goes straight for the possible outcome and spends less time figuring out how to get there, or if it’s even possible!
Apparently I’m sometimes more the ideas guy, and less the architect. Even though I generally love to plan.
